An old Vets Poem
Here’s to the World I live in
By S/Sgt. (Ret) William N. McCormack
Here’s to the world I live in
It’s beautiful and it’s pure
And I love this world that I live in
Because I know that it’s true
Because I have tried to make it so
Yet, I have walked through the shadow of the valley of death
And I have toiled and I have prayed
I have fought and I’ve suffered
For the toil of our praise
And I have dreamed and I have covered the sorrows and the shame
I have dipped in the blood of others
And yet I am not ashamed
I did it for our America which I have cherished all these years.
I would not give one minute of my heritage
For all the gold and silver, diamonds and jewels that’s in the air.
I have traveled far and near
And I have been worthy of my cause,
But, yet I am a United States Marine
That has never fallen.
I have gathered a lot of glory
And some of it is in desperate shame,
But, yet I am a Untied States Marine
That has worn the name
And would not give my title for kings or queens
or Presidents of the World.
